Hello to all parents and guardians,
I wanted to give a quick apology for not updating the blog’s agenda last week. I hope that your student has been writing down his/her schedule for the week in his/her agenda. This last week we had a full schedule starting with Monday’s out & about to the zoo. It was really fun to watch some of the students see their animals that they had researched for their Biodiversity Project. In some cases, it was like a light had turned on, the connection was more solid.

The feedback from the students was very positive, and I am glad we had such wonderful weather. We were very lucky to have the open skies between what seemed like such a cloudy, rainy week.
This week is shorter in length but still has a lot packed in. We are into our Tectonics Unit in science and have been looking at the evidence of the movement of continents. Students have been using Inquiry practices to formulate their own opinions if the continents are actually moving. We will be continuing this unit this week by looking at graphs to determine if the continents are really separated and if so, what does this mean for the direction they are moving and the speed. Students will then look at the idea of land formations that are caused by these moving plates. In math we will continue to work on equations. This week we will continue to look at two-step equations before returning to story problems. As a class we are working hard to apply the concepts we are learning to actual situations within life. Story problems is the first stage that I will be using to transition the students to see the connection of terms and procedures to problems presented. Some students will need the extra help at home with the story problems. Please make sure that your student is bringing home his/her notes to help you help them. If you have any questions, please email me. Below is the weekly schedule.
Monday-NO SCHOOL
Tuesday-6.9 Two-step equations (6.9 wkst), Introduction to plate boundaries in tectonics unit
Wednesday-Review of Story Problems (2 story problems), Plate boundary movement
Thursday-Story problems (2 story problems), Proof of the plate tectonics (Summary of proof)
Friday-All school meeting, Presentation practice at Central School Stage

Level 3 students have been studying the methods that natural resources are extracted and used throughout the world. We watched a controversial movie today on the 3 Gorges Dam. Here is an updated link to an article published by the online newspaper called the Ecologist: http://www.theecologist.co.uk/News/news_round_up/347303/three_gorges_dam_a_model_for_disaster.html
For a better understanding, one could go to the homepage and search out information on the third largest dam planned to be built within the Amazon.
